Mini Cooper

The history of the MINI Cooper has been one that has seen the emergence of a racing car variation model on the MINI origins, through being one of the most iconic vehicles of the 1960s. More recently, the MINI Cooper has been part of the acquisition of the MINI Cooper. BMW and re-branded in the 2000s as a series of variants Cooper and Cooper S, which aligned with the success of the MINI hatch and other models. Looking at this story, it is possible to notice briefly how the MINI Cooper developed from a key collaboration between the British Motor Corporation and the Cooper Car Company, before the project was adapted for later models.

Origin of MINI Cooper

The origins of the MINI Cooper can be traced back to the development of the original MINI, BMC and Sir Alex Issigonis stylist in the 1950s. Responding to a fuel shortage, and the need for more efficient cars in the city, the MINI was developed as one of two doors, 4-cylinder car engine by BMC, and featured a monobloc shell. The first MINI, or Mark I, was tied to other BMC brand names, which included the Morris Minor and Austin, and was released in 1959. During the 1960s, the popularity of the compact MINI led to it assuming its own identity , with the Mark II MINI adding a new grille in the back of the decade about best car covers for outdoor storage.

First Generation of MINI Cooper

The MINI Cooper was modeled as a special version of the first-generation MINI, with John Cooper of the Cooper Car Company recognizing the potential to create a motorsports version of the same car. This was released as the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S in 1961 and 1963. These cars featured 848cc engines for the Cooper 1071cc, and for the S type. The Cooper S’s iconic appeal as a sports version of the MINI was underlined by its success in Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967, as well as his appearance in the 1967 British film The Italian Job, in which MINIS and MINI Coopers play a key role in a bank robbery.

New Models of MINI Cooper

The future MINI Cooper was somewhat uncertain until the 1970s and 1980s as the license for the brand was sold to Spanish and Italian companies. While the new models were designed and released, most continued to play in the original Cooper and Cooper S designs, making it more of a novelty than a progression. In the 1990s, the Rover Group, which owned the rights to the MINI, was bought by German automaker BMW. Although the sale of Rover at the end of the decade, BMW maintained the MINI brand, and since 2000, relaunched the line. The current MINI has adjusted the original model for the hatch and hardtop variants, and has also released special edition of the MINI Cooper Classic and Cooper Sports cars. Major changes included the use of a Toyota diesel engine as well as the extension of the MINIS range in new editions that could incorporate convertible and hatch models. Other changes were made to the Cooper to include kit and concept cars as the MINI Cooper S works, and John Cooper Works GP Kit.

Cooper S Model

Recent years have seen Cooper and Cooper S as new models pushing for 118 hp of power for the Cooper, and 172 hp of power for the Cooper S, and has produced experiences in convertible models of hard top and. The Cooper brand continues to sustain much of MINI’s appeal, and should continue to feature improved versions of the MINI flagship brand as well as allowing new models to be tested.

Recently launched in Brazil, the new generation of the Mini Cooper shows that the saying “in the team that is winning does not move” only applies to its visual. The “face” remains the same, except for details such as the new headlights.

Third Generation

The third generation got bigger and busier, less and less remembering the sturdy trolley of the late 50’s. But the most significant changes are where the driver can not see. The platform is completely new, and the materials used in the construction, high strength steels, contribute to a reduction of 5 kg in the final weight, according to Mini . They are 1,175 kg to the total, despite the considerable increase in the external dimensions. There is also a new line of engines and the fuel tank has been increased from 40 to 44 liters. The new Cooper lands in the country at the moment the brand completes five years of operation in the Brazilian market. Initially, it is available in the Cooper versions for R $ 89,950, Cooper S Exclusive Navi for R $ 113,950 and Cooper S Top for R $ 124,950, all with a six-speed automatic transmission. Between August and September, the Cooper S Exclusive version will reach R $ 107,950, and in November, the most basic version, One, still with no set price.

Story Behind MINI Cooper

The story of the Mini has a cult chapter in England, where it stretched for 50 years until the brand was acquired and remodeled by BMW in 2000. With compact size and a surprise under the hood, the new little ones, who arrived in Brazil in 2009 , are ideal for the city. Combining cultural heritage with German luxury and technology, prices range from R $ 114,950 to R $ 184,950.

Design

The design of this cart, in all versions, is part of its charm and still draws much of the English model. With a low center of gravity, round headlights and chrome accents all over the body, the impression it passes is unique. Already in the third generation, the current models offer sports tracks on the hood, in the same tone as the roof, reinforcing the sporty blend with classic that distinguishes them. The striking front grille, a fifty-year tradition, is still there.

Model 2016

Model 2016 carries almost 60 years of Mini’s history, going through its birth in England as a city car, until becoming a cultural icon.

To rate your models, the Mini has a different system, which combines body types with engine types. In Brazil, four bodies are available: three-door hatch (one is that of the trunk), five-door hatch, Clubman and Countryman. Each of them has the versions Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works, in addition to some special editions.

Other Models and Specifications

Following this system, there are 15 models in the country today. The simplest of all is the three-door Mini Cooper, which features a 1.5L and 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine, delivering 136 hp. It’s enough for a 1.7-by-3.8-foot trolley weighing 1,565 kg, and that power has been with it from the past. In English originals, “Cooper” was the designation of performance-oriented models.

However, this powerful is the weakest of the current family, which has members with up to 231 hp. The John Cooper Works version of the 3-door Cooper is the carrier of this number, achieved through minute adjustments in the engine, and leaves for $ 141,950. Another John Cooper Works special model has the longest Countryman body, and gets the most expensive title for $ 184,950. Although it has never been preferred by fans of the model, who really like the compact, it has also been resurrected from the Mini’s history with its 4.1m by 1.7m and four doors. The Countryman models are adapted for off-road and the only ones with option of traction in the four wheels, being also the unique ones to be produced in Santa Catarina. In the version in question, it has 218cv and differentiated design, with exclusive sports tracks and color highlights on the sides. Interior of the Mini is also Different

Inside, BMW equipped the hatch with a lot of modernity, which creates a contrast with the Mini’s long history. The Central Cluster can be considered the main point of this equipment: well adapted to the design of the surroundings with its circular shape and positioned to the right of the driver, in the center of the panel, it is a system of infotenimento with diverse resources.

LED Lights

Around the center touch screen, a ring of LED lights changes color according to the nature of the information being accessed.

Screen and Steering Wheel

Depending on the model, there are other postmodern gadgets to accompany the driver. One is the Head Up display, a translucent screen that displays information about the route and the vehicle, positioned above the dashboard and behind the steering wheel.

Another differential of the Mini is the possibility of customization through several original accessories with fun designs, many referring to the history of the Mini and its English origins. Beginning with the color of the vehicle, which has 28 options, including yellow-yolk and sky blue, to the sports tracks on the hood, upholstery with chess details and accessories for the wheels and mirrors, the consumer can mount a Mini to your liking.

History

The Mini was born in England in 1959 as a popular and accessible car, characteristic of postwar Europe. As there were not many resources available and many cities were destroyed, the need was for small, cheap and practical cars. But destiny had bigger things reserved for the Mini, and throughout the decades of 60 and 70, it happened to be recognized like a personality carango, similar to the Fusca here in Brazil. Model 2016 carries almost 60 years of Mini’s history, going through its birth in England as a city car, until becoming a cultural icon.

A Mini of 1959

If we look closely at the English model, the reasons for this are clear: he is a different cart, nice and exciting, but also surprisingly powerful. The name “Cooper”, which follows today in some models, came from John Cooper, a racing car mechanic who poisoned some versions of the Mini. From 1964 to 1967, the diminutive surprised the whole world, winning three rallies of the Monte Carlo rally in sequence. While leaving much bigger cars eating dust, throughout the history of the Mini, the range of the model also was gaining several versions, including some very exotic: they had Minis the style of jeeps, of vans, of carts of hot dog and even in format of orange. All this in the compact format of the original, which was only 1.34m high.

It was not long before he rose to the heights of a cultural icon, being voted the second most influential car of the twentieth century by the prestigious Global Automotive Elections Foundation in 1999, second only to the Ford T. In 2000, the production of the Mini, which passed by many owners, was leaving to be desired and was interrupted. BMW, which already controlled its production since 1994 through the Rover Group, sold all factories and technologies, with the exception of the right to use the Mini brand. From there were born the Mini of the XXI century, that although officially only have the name of the English original, pulled much of its design and, especially, of the cultural heritage raised during the history of the Mini.
